Looking forward

It is officially the year and this is usually the time to reflect on things that happened throughout the year. This usually includes goals that we set ourselves usually of things to accomplish in the New Year.

Last year, I decided to no longer make a list or any resolutions. Not only are the list usually extremely long and require time to accomplish, I then spend many hours and days punishing myself for not accomplishing them and then feeling like a failure. I wouldn’t recommend it as it plays havoc on one’s mental health.

Creatively this year has been the worst year for me. I have felt lost and uninspired and the chaos in life hadn’t helped either. I did not pick up my camera for six months which meant created nothing new. I simply sat and decided to go with the flow.

I’ve had so many setbacks this year but I’ve chosen not to see them as such. I chosen to take them as those teachable moments in life where it is important to reflect and held myself accountable for everything that has happened. Life is such that everything that happens to us is for a reason.

I have learned so much this year about myself and about what resilience truly means. Through all the hardships, doubts and up and downs, I discovered a side of myself that I truly never knew. I spent a lot of time missing the person that I used to be but the person that I am becoming is even more important. It is this unknown/unfamiliar part of myself that leaves room to learning and my creativity. The part that I am the most looking forward to explore.
